UV radiation is present every day, even when it’s cloudy or doesn’t feel particularly warm. Many people wonder how much UV radiation is harmful and when it’s important to protect yourself. In this article, we explain how UV radiation works and how you can better protect your skin from sun exposure in your daily life.

UV radiation is always present, even on cloudy days

UV radiation comes from the sun and is present all year round. Even when it is cloudy, some of this radiation still reaches your skin. This is because clouds do block light, but they do not completely block UV radiation.

As you cannot feel or see UV radiation, its effects are often underestimated. You can be exposed to it during everyday outdoor activities, such as cycling, walking or simply sitting outside for a while.

When does UV radiation become harmful?

There is no exact point at which UV radiation suddenly becomes dangerous. The effect depends on various factors, such as the strength of the sun, how long you spend outdoors and how sensitive your skin is.

The longer you spend outdoors unprotected, the greater the impact UV radiation can have on your skin. UV levels can rise rapidly, particularly on sunny days in spring and summer, even when it doesn’t feel extremely hot. It is important not only to look at the temperature or sunshine, but also to take the amount of UV radiation into account.

Daily exposure to UV radiation

Many people think that only a day at the beach or a holiday affects the skin. In reality, every instance of exposure counts.

A short walk, cycling to work or popping out for a bit of shopping may seem harmless, but taken together, these moments still add up to a significant amount of UV exposure. Because these moments often feel harmless, people are more likely to forget to protect themselves.

How do you protect your skin from UV radiation?

Effective sun protection involves several measures. Sunscreen remains an important foundation, but in practice, applying it alone is not always enough. People sometimes forget to apply it or fail to reapply it in time.
That is why it is wise to combine sun protection with other ways of protecting your skin. UV-protective clothing plays an important role in this.

With UV-STOP Protection Wash, you can make ordinary clothing UV-protective up to UPF 50+. This gives your clothing an extra layer of protection against UV radiation. This is particularly useful when you spend a lot of time outdoors and cannot or do not want to reapply sun cream constantly.

Being mindful of UV radiation in everyday life

UV radiation isn’t just a summer problem. Your skin is exposed to it even on ordinary days spent outdoors. By being more mindful of this, you can help minimise long-term damage.

By combining sunscreen with UV-protective clothing and making sensible choices when out in the sun, you can reduce your overall exposure. This way, you can protect your skin in a way that suits your daily outdoor life, without it having to be complicated.

On the advice of my family doctor

Due to an accident I had several burns on my body and I had been advised by my doctor to avoid the uv rays as much as possible. A colleague pointed me to the protection wash and indeed I was considerably less affected by the sun.

Playing outside again without irritation

Our youngest daughter is covered in rashes at the slightest hint of sunshine. Putting sunscreen all over her was the only solution we thought. Until we heard about UV-STOP. However, we couldn’t imagine that it would work and when we bought it we thought, don’t tell anyone because they will all laugh at us if it turns out that it doesn’t work. After the first beautiful days, we are completely converted. Great our girl just played outside with the others and she is not bothered by anything. If only we had known sooner. People believe me it really works.
