Ultraviolet radiation is a component of sunlight that we cannot see, but can feel and experience. This radiation affects our skin and can cause damage if we are exposed to it for too long. Many people mainly think of sunbathing or hot summer days, but ultraviolet rays are present all year round.
Three types of ultraviolet radiation
UV radiation consists of different types: UVA, UVB and UVC. UVC is largely blocked by the atmosphere and does not reach the earth. UVA and UVB are the types you encounter on a daily basis.
UVA radiation penetrates deep into the skin and plays a role in skin ageing and pigmentation. UVB radiation is stronger and responsible for sunburn. Together, these ultraviolet rays are a major factor in sun-induced skin damage.
Ultraviolet radiation all year round
A common misconception is that you are only exposed to UV radiation in the summer. In reality, ultraviolet radiation is present all year round, even on cloudy days and when it is colder.
Precisely because the sun feels less intense at such times, protection is often forgotten. Yet the ultraviolet rays can reach your skin unnoticed and cause damage in the long term.
Ultraviolet rays and your everyday environment
You come into contact with ultraviolet radiation more often than you think. Not only outdoors in the sun, but also via reflection from water, sand or light-coloured surfaces. In addition, sunlight passing through glass can also affect your skin.
This constant exposure makes it important to be mindful of protection, not only during a day at the beach, but also during everyday activities such as walking, working or cycling.
Protection against ultraviolet radiation
Effective protection against ultraviolet radiation involves several elements. Sunscreen is an important tool, but in practice it is often forgotten or not reapplied frequently enough.
With UV-STOP Protection Wash, you can give ordinary clothing UV-protective properties up to UPF 50+. This gives your clothing an extra protective layer against ultraviolet radiation. It offers additional protection.
Being mindful of ultraviolet radiation
Ultraviolet radiation is invisible, but plays a major role in the health of your skin. By being more mindful of sun protection and combining sunscreen with UV-protective clothing, you reduce the risk of damage. This way, you effectively protect your skin against the effects of ultraviolet radiation, all year round.

UV light has various effects on your skin. UVB radiation can cause sunburn, whilst UVA radiation penetrates deeper into the skin and contributes to skin ageing and pigmentation. Prolonged exposure to UV radiation can be harmful to the skin, even if you don’t notice it straight away.
It is mainly UVA radiation that causes tanning. This radiation penetrates deeper into the skin and causes it to darken. UVB radiation also plays a role, but is primarily responsible for sunburn.
There is no single safe level of UV radiation for everyone. It depends on your skin type, the length of exposure and the strength of the sun. Too much exposure can lead to sunburn and cause long-term skin damage.
UV radiation is at its strongest when the sun is highest in the sky, usually in the middle of the day. At that time, UV rays travel a shorter distance through the atmosphere, making them more powerful.
No, UV radiation isn’t something you can feel directly. You mainly feel the sun’s warmth, but UV radiation itself is invisible and you only notice it when your skin reacts, for example with redness or irritation.

On the advice of my family doctor
Due to an accident I had several burns on my body and I had been advised by my doctor to avoid the uv rays as much as possible. A colleague pointed me to the protection wash and indeed I was considerably less affected by the sun.

Playing outside again without irritation
Our youngest daughter is covered in rashes at the slightest hint of sunshine. Putting sunscreen all over her was the only solution we thought. Until we heard about UV-STOP. However, we couldn’t imagine that it would work and when we bought it we thought, don’t tell anyone because they will all laugh at us if it turns out that it doesn’t work. After the first beautiful days, we are completely converted. Great our girl just played outside with the others and she is not bothered by anything. If only we had known sooner. People believe me it really works.
