Are you unsure whether to choose SPF 30 or 50? You’re not alone. There are various SPF factors available on the shelves, which can make it difficult to determine exactly what the difference is. In this blog, we explain how SPF works, what the difference is between SPF 30 and 50, and when to choose which factor. This will help you make an informed choice for your skin and daily sun protection.
What does SPF do?
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and indicates how well a sunscreen protects against UVB radiation. This is the radiation that causes sunburn. The higher the SPF, the better your skin is protected against this type of UV radiation. Remember: SPF only works properly if you use enough and reapply it throughout the day.
It is important to know that UV radiation is present all year round, even on cloudy days. That is why sun protection is not only necessary for a day at the beach, but also when you go outside for work, sports, or an afternoon in the garden.
SPF 30 vs 50: what is the difference?
When comparing SPF 30 and 50, it’s all about the degree of protection against UVB radiation. SPF 50 offers a higher protection factor than SPF 30. In theory, this means that your skin is protected against sunburn for longer.
The difference between SPF 30 and 50 is therefore in the degree of protection. However, it is important to realize that no SPF offers complete protection. Its effectiveness always depends on how thickly you apply it, how often you reapply it, and how strong the sun is.
What is the difference between SPF 30 and 50 in practice?
You may be wondering: what is the difference between SPF 30 and 50 when you are just spending a day outdoors? In practice, people with fair or sensitive skin often opt for SPF 50, especially when they are in the sun for long periods of time. SPF 30 may be sufficient for shorter exposure or when the sun is less intense.
The choice between SPF 50 or 30 therefore depends on your skin type, the duration of exposure, and the conditions. In intense sun or when spending long periods outdoors, SPF 50 offers more protection.
Which is better: SPF 30 or 50?
There is no standard answer to the question of whether SPF 30 or 50 is better. Both factors protect against UVB radiation, but SPF 50 offers a higher level of protection. At the same time, a properly applied SPF 30 works better than a thin layer of SPF 50.
Good sun protection is therefore not just about the number on the packaging. Regular reapplication remains important, especially when sweating and swimming.
More than just applying sunscreen
Because UV radiation is present every day, sun protection is more than just choosing between SPF 30 and 50. Applying sunscreen is important, but in practice it is often forgotten or not repeated often enough.
This is where clothing can play an important role. With UV-STOP Protection Wash, you can give ordinary clothing a UV-resistant effect of up to UPF 50+. This means your clothing forms an extra layer of protection against UV radiation, complementing your sunscreen. This provides extra security, even when you are not reapplying sunscreen immediately.
A conscious choice for your skin
Whether you choose SPF 30 or 50, the most important thing is that you are conscious about sun protection. By combining sunscreen with UV-protective clothing, you can better protect your skin against daily exposure to UV radiation. With UV-STOP Protection Wash, you can make your clothing UV-resistant. The biggest difference is in the level of protection and safety during prolonged exposure to the sun. SPF 50 offers a higher protection factor than SPF 30 and therefore provides extra safety, especially when you are outside for long periods of time or when the sun is strong. The most suitable factor depends on your skin type, how long you are in the sun, and how well you apply the sunscreen.
That depends on your skin type and how long you are outside. For short exposure or less intense sun, SPF 30 may be sufficient. In intense sun or if you have fair skin, SPF 50 may offer more protection.
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and measures how well a sunscreen protects your skin against UVB radiation, which causes sunburn. A higher SPF means a higher level of protection, provided you apply the cream sufficiently and regularly.
No, even a high SPF does not offer complete protection. Sweating, swimming, or insufficient application reduces its effectiveness. That is why it is wise to combine SPF with other forms of protection, such as UV-resistant clothing.
UV-STOP Protection Wash gives regular clothing a UV-resistant layer up to UPF 50+. This creates an extra layer of protection against UV radiation, which is especially useful when you forget to reapply sunscreen.
A well-applied SPF 30 can be more effective than a thin layer of SPF 50. So it’s all about combining the right factor, applying enough, and reapplying regularly.
Yes. While SPF only measures UVB, clothing treated with UV-STOP offers extra protection against both UVA and UVB, giving your skin broader protection against harmful solar radiation.

On the advice of my family doctor
Due to an accident I had several burns on my body and I had been advised by my doctor to avoid the uv rays as much as possible. A colleague pointed me to the protection wash and indeed I was considerably less affected by the sun.

Playing outside again without irritation
Our youngest daughter is covered in rashes at the slightest hint of sunshine. Putting sunscreen all over her was the only solution we thought. Until we heard about UV-STOP. However, we couldn’t imagine that it would work and when we bought it we thought, don’t tell anyone because they will all laugh at us if it turns out that it doesn’t work. After the first beautiful days, we are completely converted. Great our girl just played outside with the others and she is not bothered by anything. If only we had known sooner. People believe me it really works.
